The Intentionality of Success

By Dr. Michael Perusich

Success doesn’t happen by accident.  It’s an intentional process requiring an investment of time, capital, resources, and innovation.  The fact is that success also requires a strong will to bring it to fruition.

I often hear doctors speak with a negative tone about their businesses and lamenting over the idea that they just can’t seem to make money in this economy.  Or worse yet, they believe that chiropractic as a career is just failing them.

When I hear this I’m always reminded of the famous quote from Napoleon Hill, “What you think about you bring about.”  In my opinion, the biggest difference between success and failure is whether or not you have the willful intent to keep success at the forefront of your thinking.

Clouding your thought process with negativity will drive you in the wrong direction.  If you allow the practice to bring you down, then your success will be down as well.  If you let the financial conversation with patients scare you, then you will be too frightened to have that talk.  If you aren’t intentional about profitable treatment plans, creating strong fee strategies, moving patients to wellness, or developing your staff into success partners, then your results may drag you under.

In today’s economy, the strong will survive.  There are HUGE opportunities for Chiropractors in this type of business environment.  In fact, the financial guru Harry Dent said it best, “...more millionaires per capita were created during the Great Depression than at any other time in history.”  There’s nothing holding you back from success other than your intention to reach it.

We are currently seeing a major divide in the profession that has the potential to get even wider.  In the next few years, there will be those doctors who see huge success because they were willful about finding opportunities and creating pathways to capitalizing on them.  On the other side of the divide will be those who didn’t react to market and consumer changes.  Unfortunately, their results may not be appreciable.

The choice is yours.  Do you have the intentionality to do what it takes to be successful, or will it be business as usual?  Either way, find it in your heart to enjoy the ride.  Afterall, your patients and our profession are worth the effort you put forth.

As we move into the holidays at year’s end, this is a good time to reflect on how you can be more intentional about making success happen for you.
