Chiropractic Innovation

By Dr. Michael Perusich

In the last couple of weeks, I have seen dozens of “systems” on social media trying to lure Chiropractors into doing something that’s sure to work because it worked for the narrator.  And these programs claim to offer big results, massive growth, and rapid scaling.

Sounds great, right?  But when you see these ads, you shouldn’t just pump the brakes, you should hit them… and hard.

There’s one major issue with the “next big thing.”  If you’re curious about what the issue is, then read on.  If you’re a next-big-thing-practitioner…read on twice!

The issue is simple - you didn’t create it so therefore it doesn’t belong to you.. Instead, you’re just trying to follow it.

Steve Jobs once said, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”

If we don’t have buy-in, then we will rarely experience success with it, no matter what it is.

It could be adding decompression therapy to your practice.  If you don’t buy in and be part of the innovation process to envelope it into your practice, it won’t work.

If you buy a new marketing system or hire someone offering “amazing social media marketing that works,” it likely won’t work for you because you are not part of the innovation.  Instead, you are the follower

So why are we attracted to these shiny objects?

It’s because we’re looking and listening for a way to fix an issue that we have and we’re not taking the time nor seeking the right help to innovate our own fix.

Albert Einstein said it best, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

If we have bad procedures, then we’re listening for someone with a great system to solve our procedural issues.  We throw money at it, but it never works because we were not vested in the innovation.  We were only attracted to someone else fixing the issue which forced us to be a follower.

The same thing happens over and over with other issues too.  Our revenue is down.  New patients are down.  We don’t have enough staff.  Dropouts are high.  No matter what the issue is, the same cycle occurs with the same result of being a follower and not an innovator.

Be honest with yourself.  You’ve tried marketing that didn’t work.  New revenue centers that fell flat.  New patient schemes that caused you to lose revenue and produced lackluster results.  The cycle continues.

You’re probably thinking at this point, “I don’t have time to be the doctor and the innovator.

That’s absolutely correct.  The reality is you don’t have to be the creator, you just have to be involved in the process and willing to change.

Here’s where great business advising and coaching become invaluable.

Over time your coaches become part of your team, learn your business acumen and management personality, help monitor your weaknesses, and can then help you develop the sweet spot of success that will fit nicely into your business.  It will feel right and it will work because you will be involved in the innovation of developing your business plan of action and achievements.

Plus, if your mindset is right, it will likely be one of those steps that will truly catapult you to the level of success you only dreamed was attainable.
